Research Plan
Research Background
Chinese speakers usually consider that vocabularies in the form of Chinese characters share the same meaning as they have in Japanese, while isomorphism words are often used incorrectly.
Research Objective and Aim
1. Explore the differences of common and non-common vocabularies in order to apply positive translation into the mother language;
2. Enhance the learning ability of cross language
Determine the Sample Size
The sample size involves the number of elements should be included in this study. Luck and Rubin (1987) argued that the determination of sample size is as much as an art of research design development. In this study, the sample size was previously determined for 100 Chinese and 100 Korean students.
Research Method
1. Apply the first test to these 200 students, as well as check them.
2. Analyze the data from the first test, in order to explore the degree of interference from Chinese characters over Chinese who learn the isomorphous words.
3. Teach these 200 students 50 new isomorphic synonym, such as the meaning, cases and phrases use, and then test and check them (second test).
4. Analyze the data from the second test; explore the degree of positive influence over Chinese who learn isomorphic synonym.
5. Randomly divide the 100 Chinese students into group A and B. Teach them 50 new isomorphism words in one week. B will not be shown Chinese characters in the place of Hiragana.
6. Analyze the data from the 5th step, finally detect the degree of positive and negative influence respectively over Chinese learn isomorphism words and find a more appropriate learning method.
Expected results
1. Chinese students almost approach to full marks in isomorphic synonym test in 1st and 2nd test, while Korean students may be unable to get full marks.
2. Group B will get higher scores in 3rd test.
Research Consideration
More importantly, ethic elements should be carefully considered not only in the test parts and but also throughout the whole research, in this research, author should pay more attention to the following aspects:
1. The researchers should clearly explain the purpose to the respondents in order to produce accurate result;
2. The researchers should make sure the reliability and validity of the using scales.
3. The researcher-respondent relationship have to be emphasized in text design, for example, avoid long, sensitive and biased questions;
4. It is essential for confidentiality and avoid sending unacceptable, unsolicited mass E-mails;
5. The researchers should interpret the results honestly and clearly.
Reason for Application
I want to continue my study in international communication faculty of Waseda University. Because study abroad allows me to enjoy a higher quality of education and broader research resources, while it is a big challenge and exercise to my own ability.
My previous major is industrial design. However, I am a well educated, family cared, self supported, optimistic oriental girl/boy with well tailored personality, mild temper, brilliant brain and kind heart. I am ready to learn and achieve the degree of postgraduate in language in the Waseda, so I really appreciate the chance to study and hope to go further and deeper. Actually, the idea on study abroad is from my pursuit of translation work, because I learned to my distinctive interest with the translation. I yearn to be study and master the content of translation information deeply and professionally, in order to experiencing her charm!
What’s more, in international communication faculty of Waseda University, there are teachers and students from all over the world; they have different mother language with diverse culture and views. As is well known, China and Japan are close neighbors, and their communication could trace back to thousands of years ago, with "Tang ambassador" and "Sui ambassador" as best proof. Consequently, I hope through my effort on the language, China and Japan can work closer, especially in the field of language education and translation. The prosperity of Chinese and Japanese translation literature in modem times has a positive and profound impact on the literary circles of the two countries.
Nevertheless, the most important aspects is that Waseda University is my dream place with more than 100 years of history behind it, it remains among the most coveted of university places, standing shoulder to shoulder with the many excellent universities in the world, she is quite mysterious that makes me so wishful to be close to her.
